St. Stephen's Preschool

St. Stephen’s Preschool is a happy, secure place where your child can grow and flourish.

First opening its doors in 1969 as a ministry of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, the preschool offers a traditional half-day preschool program for 2 – 5-year-olds. Classes meet 2 or 3 days per week, depending on the age of the children. We also offer a 1-morning per week Parent/Toddler program.

St. Stephen’s welcomes all children regardless of religion, race, national origin, ancestry or family configuration. Basic Judeo-Christian values of love, acceptance, and inclusiveness are lived out by everyone at the preschool.

Our staff members are professionals trained in the field of Early Childhood Education. The longevity of our staff provides continuity from year to year as we offer a nurturing environment where children can flourish.

ST. STEPHEN’S PRESCHOOL has a warm God-centered atmosphere in which young children are encouraged to discover the joys of learning about themselves, about God’s world around them and about their place in that world. St. Stephen’s offers a developmentally based, child-centered program which emphasizes “play as a child’s work.”

OUR GOAL is that children:

• develop an age-appropriate understanding of God’s presence in their lives
• grow in self-reliance
• find appropriate means for expressing feelings
• respect adults as sources of help and guidance
• grow in the ability to use large and small muscles
• increase awareness of information received through all of the senses
• grow in the ability to make choices wisely and to solve problems
• appreciate the diversity of customs and cultures
• develop consideration for the rights and welfare of self and others because all are a part of the world God created
• respect self as an individual and a worthy member of the group
• enjoy the “process,” not worrying about the “product”
• develop an age-appropriate attention span
• leave our program at 5 years of age with a well-rounded foundation, ready to participate fully in all areas of kindergarten.
