St. John's Episcopal School is an independent, church-affiliated school enrolling boys and girls from 8 weeks old to 8th Grade. Located in Orange County about 40 miles southeast of Los Angeles, Rancho Santa Margarita is a picturesque, Spanish-style town a short distance from the Santa Ana Mountains and vast expanses of national forest.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know St. John's Episcopal School. We understand that finding a school that is the right match for your child and family is an important decision. We look forward to meeting you and introducing you to our innovative program and our close-knit community.
Founded in 1988, St. John’s has established itself as a leading independent school in Orange County. Our students are divided into three developmentally-appropriate divisions:
Early Childhood Division (8 Weeks-Pre-K)
Elementary Division (K-5th Grade)
Middle Division (6th-8th Grade)
While based in an inter-disciplinary, project-based, STEAM approach to teaching and learning, our program remains committed to the traditions of an Episcopal education. In addition to the core curriculum, for which St. John’s has a well-deserved reputation of excellence, our students enjoy many enrichment classes to help develop their full God-given potential. Students in all grades study religion and participate in regular chapel services rooted in the Christian practices of the Episcopal Church and designed to respect the diverse faith traditions of our students.
As you begin the process of researching schools, we invite you to tour St. John’s Episcopal School. It is valuable to see firsthand the students in our dynamic learning environment, the dedicated teachers implementing our rich curriculum, and the campus where your children will be safe and thrive. We look forward to meeting you soon and guiding you through the admission process.
Grounded in the rich history of diversity and excellence in Episcopal education, St. John’s fosters every child’s full intellectual, physical, and spiritual development. A nurturing learning environment and programs built on an ideal balance of tradition and innovation encourage our students to pursue lives of service and purpose.

STEAM
On September 12, 2016, local Rancho Santa Margarita and state government officials and the school community joined together for an official ribbon cutting ceremony for St. John’s Episcopal School’s new Johnson STEAM Center—an innovative, state-of-the-art building that will provide opportunities for more cutting-edge, authentic learning experiences using science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
St. John’s adopted a STEAM approach to teaching and learning more than three years ago to enhance academic programs and encourage students to be 21st Century learners and leaders. Already one of the largest and most innovative Episcopal day schools in the country, St. John’s students are experiencing the benefits of a STEAM education through high-tech and specialized activities using Vex Robotics kits, 3D printers, green screens, and laser cutters, to name a few. Curricular enhancements such as robotics, instrumental music, Music Together, Project Lead the Way, and Mandarin Chinese complement a robust St. John’s education.
“The Johnson STEAM Center will provide our students and teachers the space and tools required for innovative, project-based learning, and ensure that St. John's will continue to be a leader in STEAM education.”
