St. Anthony on the Desert had its beginnings April, 1987, when we began meeting for worship in the Anasazi Elementary School. In February, 1988, worship began in a temporary building on our current location at 130th St.and Shea Boulevard in Scottsdale just adjacent to the Mayo Clinic. In July, 1989, we worshipped in our first permanent building on our campus. This space is now our Parish Hall that hosts our many events including educational, social and an-ongoing artist display that is changed several times during the year. Our present sanctuary and new education building were dedicated in October, 1998.
We primarily serve the communities of Fountain Hills and Scottsdale, with some members from the East Valley and beyond. In addition to our worship and continuing Christian education, we have a strong emphasis on outreach, locally, nationally and internationally. We have an active winter resident population contributing and participating in what they consider their "other" spiritual home.
Note: During COVID, our worship service will be precorded and available after 6 pm on Saturday evening. We will not meet in person for the time being.
What can you expect on a Sunday after COVID? We have two weekly worship services on Sunday at 9 am and Wednesday at noon unless a special worship service is planned such as for Christmas or our Annual Meeting.
Be sure to look for a member of the Welcome Team or an usher at the front door, because they’ll be looking for you. They will be happy to give you any assistance you might need. Stop by the Welcome Center just outside the church door to receive additional information about St. Anthony and to have your questions answered.
We celebrate Holy Communion at each service. All baptized Christians are welcomed to receive Holy Communion. However, if you do not wish to do so, you are invited to come forward for a blessing. Our worship services are about an hour long. After each service we host an informal coffee hour for a beverage and a bite to eat before you go on your way. This is where relationships have the opportunity to grow.

Volunteer opportunities
Our volunteers are our lifeblood at St. Anthony. From the lay pastoral care teams who keeps in frequent contact with all our households to teaching and leading our children and youth, volunteers fuel what is most important to us as a faith community. But this does not stop at our doors. Our commitment to our communities, both locally and nationally is propelled by our volunteers.

International Relationships
Sainte Croix Episcopal Church
Our relationship with the Ste Croix Episcopal Church, School and Hospital began in 2011 when one of St. Anthony's members traveled to Leogane to volunteer as Guesthouse Manager at the hospital. Since that time St. Anthony has supported the school with funding for improvements after the earthquake and also by three biennial mission trips by a volunteer team to rebuild and refurbish the school facilities. Over-the-counter drug collections have been taken to replenish basic necessities for the hospital pharmacy. Computers were provided for the new computer lab that St. Anthony funded. The friendships between the people of Ste Croix and St. Anthony have endured throughout the years.
