Trinity Center

Share a story

Established as a separate non-profit in 2000 by parishioners of St. David's Episcopal Church in Austin, Trinity Center's mission is "To serve spiritual, physical and emotional need of people experiencing homelessness and deep poverty in Austin, our neighbors. Trinity Center started by offering a church/worship service followed with a meal on Sunday. It now operates all weekdays as well as a day-time Community Center for the homeless men and women in downtown Austin.

Sunday - Trinity Streets

Advocacy
Faith Formation
Shelter and Housing

On Sunday afternoon we act as the church for people experiencing homelessness with a service that is offered alternately by different churches and is followed with a meal. Many of the neighbors do not feel welcome in the regular Sunday services in town. By setting up the center as a communal place to worship, with a service, music, meal and a collaboration with other spiritual services’ providers we “walk the walk” of loving our neighbors as ourselves. There are usually 60-70 people who come to Sunday services.

Monday - Woman to Woman

Advocacy
Shelter and Housing

While operating Trinity Center it was obvious to us that there are much fewer services offered to homeless women at the same time as we understood them to be the more vulnerable and at-risk population. Since 2005, Trinity Center has operated a Monday program for homeless women, creating a safe and welcoming environment away from the streets and offering a free wardrobe for our female neighbors. As in all other days of operation, a breakfast and sack lunches are offered as well. About 50 women participate.
