Mission Statement
St. Vincent’s House is a 501(c)(3) non-profit social service agency providing comprehensive social services and community outreach programs for the entire family. St. Vincent’s House serves the disadvantaged, underserved and working poor population of the greater Galveston community with essential programs and services to enhance their mental, physical and spiritual well being.
St. Vincent's House is an "Oasis of Hope, Expecting Miracles." We provide essential services, resources and tools for individuals to build and become members of a community where each person is valued and lives in Hope.
History
Begun in 1954 as a small outreach ministry of St. Augustine of Hippo Episcopal Church in Galveston to the youth and residents ‘north of Broadway’, St. Vincent’s House has become an urban mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and a recognized Jubilee Ministry.
As a Jubilee Ministry, St. Vincent’s House serves as an effective vehicle to convey God’s love to the vulnerable and at-risk populations of Galveston in a real and tangible way. We pray continually for the mission, our clients, fellow servants and supporters.

Clinic Services
St. Vincent’s House Free Clinic has become the place in the community where someone, who lacks medical benefits and has no other means, can go and receive quality medical care from people who care.
In partnership with the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), St. Vincent’s House offers free primary care to those men, women, and children who might otherwise go without medical care or treatment; the indigent, transient (homeless), under and/or uninsured members of our community.
Our primary care clinic is administered by a full-time patient coordinator and staffed through the generosity of volunteer health professionals and students from UTMB Medical and Allied Health Schools, under the supervision of practicing doctors from the faculty. The UTMB affiliation affords the patients much-needed access and referrals to University’s labs and resources that traditionally would have been unavailable. The clinic operates several days a week.
A major focus of the clinic is the prevention, early detection, and control of chronic illnesses such as Diabetes, Hypertension, High Cholesterol, Heart disease, with special emphasis on Cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other sexually transmitted diseases. St. Vincent’s House Free Clinic provides:
- Routine physical/sports exams
- Women’s Wellness check-ups
- Mammograms & bone density analysis
- HIV testing
- Vision screenings
- Diabetes health maintenance and counseling
- Prescription assistance
Under the auspices of our WelCare Initiative program, the clinic takes preventative healthcare and outreach to the front door of the underserved and uninsured with Street Screenings, a mobile wellness program conducting free medical screening for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol at various sites around the community.
St. Vincent’s House envisions a holistic approach to wellness. Lay Chaplains (sponsored by the Community of Hope) are available for spiritual/healing support to clinic patients, staffers and/ or anyone who may want or need someone to talk to, pray with or just listen.
Clinic Hours:
Tuesdays: 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Thursdays: 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Saturdays: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Walk-ins may or may not be accepted depending on if the clinic is filled to capacity. If you would like to set an appointment call (409) 763-8521.

St. Vincent’s House provides quality daycare and early childhood education to children two(2)–five(5) years of age from families of very low to moderate income at an affordable cost. St. Vincent’s House Day Care/Preschool offers subsidized program opportunities based on a sliding income qualifier application.
Our vision encourages a strong literacy preparation and cultural enrichment through an esteem based curriculum. The Pre-School program fosters a safe and nurturing environment to help each child develop and model:
- A curiosity for learning
- Confidence and self-reliance
- A healthy concept of him/herself
- Appropriate emotional & social behavior
- A command of basic language skills
- His/her creative potential
- A cultural, environmental and spiritual awareness of themselves and their world
The Preschool curriculum also offers science, computer training, and Spanish. Children are exposed to art, music and assorted multi-media projects through our Artist-In-Residence program. An “Earth-friendly” focus is incorporated in the Preschool curriculum that encourages our students and their parents to be environmentally conscious and responsible. The children learn about protecting nature in their garden and regularly recycle newspaper.
With the addition of the Healthy Start nutrition program, the Preschool has taken a leading role in providing good nutritional meals and modeling good nutritional habits. Nutritionally balanced meals are served daily for breakfast and lunch. For many children, this may be the only balanced meal they get until the next day.
Being located in the heart of the neighborhood that our families and clients live is another important benefit that makes the St. Vincent’s House Preschool program so vital. The Preschool opens its doors from 6:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, offering a year-round program based on the calendar year and not the semester year. This allows for a continuum of care throughout the summer.
Emergency Assistance and Referrals
Working in conjunction with a network of social service, health and other charitable agencies in the greater Galveston community, St. Vincent’s House provides appropriate referral information and facilitates contacts with those agencies which can offer clients the services which they are in need of.Our goal is to help each client navigate and negotiate the overwhelming network of social services and the health care delivery system.
St. Vincent's House is always in need of Hope Angels who would consider being available to provide additional monetary assistance anonymously to those clients in dire need whom we were unable to help.
Please contact our Executive Director, if you, your organization or church group would like to participate as Hope Angels.

At Thanksgiving, we provide food baskets so a family can prepare its own home-cooked meal. Additionally, we serve a community Thanksgiving feast for those who don’t have a place to go. We also deliver dinner to those who can’t make it to the feast.
Transportation Services
The Transportation program provides a viable means for low-income residents, senior citizens, medical patients, and children to reach needed medical care and/or business appointments with door-door service.
The Transportation program works in concert with the Meals on Wheels program delivering hot meals to the elderly and disabled. The St. Vincent House van is a real lifeline to the community and has delivered more than 3,100 meals last year, making more than 4,600 pick-ups.
The Transportation program also affords many children from low-income families the opportunity to participate in recreational and cultural activities throughout the greater Galveston community.
Hope Academy
Hope Academy is located at St. Vincent's House. It nurtures students on a "safe campus" with positive activities and programs. This is a dual certification program where youth can get a High School Diploma Program and work toward the G.E.D. test. It is currently funded by a grant from the Criminal Justice Division of the Office of Governor Rick Perry and Bloomberg Charitable Trust, Baxter Trust, Del Papa Distributing and a host of private donors and contributors. The program combines education with positive mentoring interactions conducted by officers in the Galveston County Sherriff's Department and The Galveston Police Department. This is a true "last chance" effort to help these youth to turn their lives around and become productive members of society.
