St. Paul's Episcopal Church

Share a story

St. Paul's is a family of Believers grounded in Scripture, Reason and Tradition. It is a sacred place, where the Spirit can be renewed and refreshed. We welcome the stranger and provide opportunities for participation and service. We maintain this sacred place of worship as we reach out to the community and surrounding areas in the hope that a tradition-based Episcopal church will appeal to those who seek to know Christ; and we desire to make Him known to others.

The Houston International Seafarers' Center

Donation Coordination/Distribution

The Houston International Seafarers’ Centers are a “home away from home” for seafarers visiting the Port of Houston. Chartered in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s as a non-profit organization under the laws of the State of Texas, the two Centers have during their existence, served over a million visiting seafarers. Both Centers exist as the result of a deep desire and concern within the local maritime industry, followed by active support and involvement of the community and local churches, to provide a safe and welcoming recreational and spiritual environment on land for those who have chosen the sea as their livelihood.

Recognizing that all human persons are a gift of God, the mission of the chaplains and Committee for Ministry to the Port of Houston is to carry out a ministry of presence, outreach, witness, worship, service, and advocacy to, with, and for seafarers and their families from around the world.

CHRISTMAS GIFT BOX PROGRAM

Every year St. Paul's support the centers by donating Christmas boxes packed full of items requested by the centers for the seafarers' from around the world. The shoebox sized boxes are packed, gift wrapped and delivered to the Seafarers' Centers by our parishioners just in time for Christmas.

Crew sizes vary between 8 and 30, with an average of 22 seafarers' per ship.  The Christmas boxes are personally carried to each ship by your staff of Port Chaplains - "your staff" because they are funded by denominational mission funds in this ecumenical ministry.  They begin shortly after Thanksgiving and continue gifting seafarers until all the gifts have been distributed.

There are two seafarers centers in Houston. The contact information is listed below.

St. Paul's Annual Coat Drive

Donation Coordination/Distribution

After a very successful coat drive in 2013, and learning of a shortage of warm coats for children in need, the members of St. Paul's decided to have another coat drive for winter season. The goal is to benefit those children in the community that do not have a coat to keep them warm. In the Winter months we will begin a Coat Donation Drop-off Center.
