St. John's was founded in 1856.

MISSION - Serving God by serving others.

We are pleased to have two ways in which people can associate with us:

FRIENDS OF ST. JOHN'S are people who connect with the church in a variety of way without being "members." They are those who want a way to serve the greater good of the community through an established organization whose goals align with theirs. Some people help with specific ministries, such as our monthly Community Luncheon, either by working at it or by making contributions of food, free store items or funds. Some simply make regular contributions to specific efforts or toward the ongoing life of the church. Others attend various activities such as our Twelfth Night series exploring the intersection of faith and culture. Many people are looking for ways to grow spiritually without judgment, dogma or requirement to join, so some attend classes and/or worship as they are so inclined. Friends are welcomed to participate freely in activities of the Church. One becomes a Friend just by doing any of these things; There is no formal Friends organization.

MEMBERS OF ST. JOHN'S make up the core of the community. The Episcopal Church has a formation process for helping people learn to center their lives in God by following the pathway created by teachings, life, death & resurrection of Jesus. Being a member leverages  prayer, study, and worship-- focused both inwardly on spiritual growth and outwardly toward God's greater good. Membership begins with baptism or reception. Lifetime growth is encouraged through serving others, studying Scripture and other expressions of the faith, regularly gathering with others in an active & participatory expression of the faith community in song, prayer and sacrament. Interest in becoming a member is directed to the priest, who enters into an exploratory period with the person and, if so indicated, leads them through the process as outlined by the Episcopal Church toward full membership.

Regarding our disaster preparedness: We are interested in refurbishing our campus to increase our capabilities for housing non-local volunteers during a disaster. This includes work needed on a currently non-functional shower and a few external portions of our campus housing.  We welcome any volunteers who have skillsets for carpentry and plumbing on these one-time opportunities!

We also offer a cost-free community lunch which serves ~100 to 150 on the third Friday of each month. If you cook, plate or greet, we have a great way to share Christ's love in Columbus!
