St. Francis Episcopal Church

Share a story

Saint Francis was founded in South College Station as mission of the Diocese of Texas in 1984. The people of St. Francis began their vibrant start using local schools and other secondary venues until they were able to build the building on Rock Prairie where they now reside. Until then, they met in each others homes and reached out to the community in numerous ways. Once they were established in their new facilities, the people of St. Francis remembered that they too were once without a building and sought to share their new home to meet the needs of the community. Today we are a community of diverse people who seek to know Jesus, share in each others joys, lament together in our sorrows, and to respond faithfully to a world in need.

St Francis has been served by two vicars and two rectors over the course of its thirty year history. Each has brought their own aesthetic to the worship for the people of St. Francis. Yet what remains constant is a faithful people who appreciate and love liturgy, music, and openness to God’s Holy Spirit.

St Francis has also dedicated itself to the practice of serving their neighbors. Much of this has been done quietly over the years, yet what cannot be denied is that St. Francis is a small church with a big heart. From food pantries and crop walks to pet blessings and vaccination drives, the people of St Francis have sought many ways to serve the community around them.

Ministries

Stuff the Bus

Donation Coordination/Distribution

Every year when youngsters are preparing for the new school year in July and August, St. Francis gathers school supplies for children in the B/CS schools K-12.  We gather pencils, paper, binders, crayons and other items on the school lists at various stores.  The items are collected and then blessed before being turned over to the Junior League for distribution to children in the free and low-cost meal programs.

Family Promise

Shelter and Housing

Every day families throughout the Brazos Valley struggle to remain in their homes. Often due to reasons beyond their control, some families are left with no choice but to give up the place they call home. Family promise offers these families in crisis a place to sleep, do laundry, eat and recuperate until they can put a roof over their heads. We support this important ministry by hosting a meal for these families approximately six times a year. Please contact Susannah Lindsay for more information.

Donation Coordination/Distribution
Prison Services

Angel Tree, reaches out to the children of incarcerated prisoners and their families. This unique program gives parishioners an opportunity to assist the incarcerated parent in ensuring that these children feel remembered at Christmas.

Bridges to Life

Prison Services

The Bridges To Life (BTL) program connects communities to prisons in an effort to reduce the recidivism rate (particularly that resulting from violent crimes), reduce the number of crime victims, and enhance public safety.  Parish volunteers engage in the spiritual mission of Bridges To Life by ministering to victims and offenders in an effort to show them the transforming power of God’s love and forgiveness.

Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles

Racial Reconciliation

Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith.  Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society.  This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups.  Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
