The Episcopal Church of the Cross (ECC) is a rellatively new creation. Our first worship service was February 15, 2015.
A few years ago the Bishop and People of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas recognized the growth in the Bee Cave/Lakeway area. It’s a great place to live, and people were moving here. Because God loves this community and wants everyone to know that love, the Diocese of Texas became convinced it was time to help a new church be started here. Over time some faithful people came together to imagine the new life God wanted to give us, and did the work to implement the mission and vision God has given to us.
And we were born. God is always gracious, and has given us life.
After worshipping in school cafeterias and temporary locations for 9 years, we now have our own space on Hwy 71. Our service is at 9:30 AM every Sunday. We sing, and pray, and study the scriptures, and share in Holy Communion every time we are together. Our Children’s Ministry is called “Cross Kids.” Every Sunday morning they gather during the worship time and have their own Bible teaching. And we serve in the community.
We exist to connect people with God, one another, and the world; and our vision is nothing less than seeing every person in our neighborhoods know fully the healing, restoring, and transforming power of God’s grace, mercy, and love.
That’s our life now. But we are very new, and very much in formation. We are just getting started, and the Lord isn’t done with us…or our community.
At Church of the Cross you’ll meet people who are older; people who are younger; and people who are newborn. Some of us have background in the Episcopal Church; some of us have background in other churches; and for some of us, this is the first church we’ve ever been part of. Some of us have walked closely with God for a long time. Some of us are searching. Some of us prefer answers. Some of us prefer questions. We’re not all the same.
But we are bound together by common prayer; and the conviction that God is good, and merciful, and loving, and just, and loves us beyond our imagination and comprehension.
Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome at Church of the Cross. We invite you to come along.

Sunday Morning Ministries
In most cases, to serve in any of these ministries is to serve once a month. Scheduling is done monthly, and all participants have the option of indicating their availability for particular Sundays.
Altar Guild: The altar guild prepares the table for worship, and cares for the linens and eucharistic vessels between services.
Bread Provider: Bread providers ensure that we have fresh bread for our service of Holy Eucharist. Bread can be homemade or store bought.
Children’s Chapel Shepherd: Children’s Chapel Shepherds work with Mary Allen Smith, our Children’s and Youth Formation Minister, to help in Children’s Chapel. All Children’s Chapel Shepherds are certified in Safeguarding God’s Children. For information on Safeguarding God’s Children certification, please contact the church, at vicar@ecclt.org or 512-261-4300.
Greeters/Ushers: Before worship, Greeters/Ushers welcome people as they enter the worship space and distribute bulletins. During the service, Greeters/Ushers receive the offering and present it to the table.
Readers/Prayer Leaders/Chalicers: Readers/Prayer Leaders/Chalicers read the scripture or lead the prayers in worship, and administer the chalice during communion.
Refreshment Provider: Refreshment providers make coffee and bring treats for after worship.
Set-Up: Set-up teams arrive early before worship to set up the space for worship and child-care, and then stay for a while after the conclusion of worship to pack the trailer. Some set-up team members also transport the trailer to our worship locations.
Ministries
Mobile Loaves and Fishes
Church of the Cross serves with Mobile Loaves and Fishes the first and third Tuesday of every month. On the first and third Tuesdays we take out a truck to deliver food and clothing to an Austin area community that would welcome a bit of fellowship and grace. On the third Tuesday, we also prepare the truck to go out by making meals and loading them on the truck. Please click here for more information on Mobile Loaves and Fishes.
Partners in Hope
Church of the Cross regularly serves with Partners in Hope, a local ministry that does restorative reconstruction on homes in the Lake Travis community. Please click here for more information on Partners in Hope.
Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles
Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.
Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
