The objective of St. James Children’s Center is to provide each child with a healthy environment in which to grow. In an atmosphere of love, each child can develop physically, mentally, socially, and intellectually to his or her highest potential. We further the child’s social growth by stressing love of country, good manners, self control, self reliance, consideration of others, cooperation and sportsmanship.

Founded in 1984, St. James Children's Center is a nationally accredited non-profit preschool and is also a free Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) provider.

St. James is the only preschool in the Upper Florida Keys to meet the rigorous accreditation guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

The preschool is offered as a ministry of St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church to the community. The center is is guided by a board of directors made up of parents, community members and members of the church.

St. James Children Center offers open enrollment for all potty-trained children aged 2.5 to 5 years old.  Enrollment began with 15 students and 2 teachers more than 20 years ago, and today is capped at 45 children with a staff of 6.
