St. Paul's Church

Share a story

Saint Paul’s is a historic congregation, founded in 1874 and anchored in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion.

Our Mission is to:
    Build a Community
        Shaped by Worship,
            Sustained by Faith, and
                Sharing God’s love.

St. Paul’s community is deeply committed to one another, as we simultaneously reach out to welcome visitors and new friends from Monroe, Union County, and the greater Charlotte Metropolitan area.

We build community person to person, as Christ intended.  Our worship helps to mold us into the people of God.  Our fellowship helps to show us how to love one another as Christ loves us.  Our Adult Formation Bible Studies help to form our minds upon the mind of Christ.  We build upon relationships of honesty, trust and encouragement, anchored in looking to Jesus as the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.

Building a Community That Is Shaped by Worship

Sunday Services:  Holy Eucharist (Communion) is offered on the Lord’s Day (Sunday):
▸    The 8:00 a.m. Service is a quiet, contemplative and intimate service.
▸    The 10:30 a.m. Service is a larger, joyful celebration with hymns, psalms and bells.
▸    Gluten free wafers are available at each service.
▸    Masks are optional, but encouraged when the CDC county level is either Medium or High.
▸    Coffee and light refreshments are offered after the principal service.
▸    Communion is open to all Christians of any denomination.  You are invited to the Lord’s table.

Other Services:    Special services are offered throughout the year, including:
▸    Baptism
▸    Confirmation
▸    Holy Matrimony
▸    Reconciliation of a penitent (Confession)
▸    Unction (Anointing with prayers for healing).
▸    Holy Days
▸    Blessing of the Animals (St. Francis Day)
▸    Blessing of the Backpacks

The  Adult Choir is led by Kathleen Prevost, and are devoted to “perfecting the praises offered by God’s people on earth” while simultaneously building wonderful bonds of singing together– sharing the reality that people who sing pray twice.

The Handbell Choir is comprised of both adults and youth members, dedicated to ringing out the good news of the Resurrection.

The Altar Guild are women and men dedicated to the beauty of holiness. As John E. Bowers wrote that [St. Paul’s] “is the Lord’s house, home for all of God’s people, school for the faithful, refuge for the sinner, rest for the pilgrim, haven for the weary; all find a welcome.”  The members of the Altar Guild seek to make the Lord’s house as welcoming as they can.

The Children’s Chapel provides opportunities for worship and other activities specially designed for children who might be too young to enjoy portions of our church services

Building a Community That Is Sustained by Faith

“Hearing the Gospel,” an Adult Bible Study, meets weekly to study the appointed Gospel lesson for the following Sunday, using the Canterbury (African) Bible Study method.  This “shared leadership” group listens deeply to each other’s thoughtful reflections on the Gospel, how it touches each of our  lives, and what God may be calling us to do or become.

"Pistos" is the Greek word for “faithful, trustworthy and believing.”  Our Sunday study group studies the intersection of the current events and faith.  It’s a great group facilitated by our Senior Warden.  We also have other adult education offerings, including video-driven curriculum taught by great leaders in the faith and facilitated by our lay members.

The E-Males Men’s Group is open to all men at St. Paul’s who are sixteen years old or older.  Their purpose is to:
▸    aid in the fulfillment of the church’s mission
▸    help any parish member in need
▸    build community among the men of the parish
▸    sponsor fund-raising, fellowship, and social activities
    ▸    support all youth activities.

Mary & Martha Episcopal Sisters (a/k/a the M&Ms) see special events, have book studies, fellowship and lunch together to help build community.  The group is open to all women of St. Paul’s.
