The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation is an open and inclusive community within the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan. We’re rooted in the Anglican tradition, nourished by contemplative practice, and committed to service and advocacy.
Our work together as a church is all about connecting lives, transforming faith, and working for justice.
Come as you are. Whoever you are. Wherever you are on your journey. We don’t have a dress code. And we don’t have any expectations or requirements about what you need to believe in order to be welcome here.
Our church community is a diverse one — in age, race, and family structure. We welcome non-traditional families, including single parent, adoptive, multi-racial, and families headed by same-sex couples.
Our individual experience is also diverse. Some of us are comfortably middle-class, while others are struggling financially. Some are cheerfully optimistic, while others have been through the fires of despair and rejection. No matter who we were or where we’ve come from, we’ve found new lives at Incarnation.

Ministries
Ministering to Incarcerated Persons and Their Families
Incarnation members were among the main organizers of Washtenaw County’s Michigan Prisoner ReEntry Program. Today, Vicar Joe and other Incarnation members continue to support people transitioning out of prison, those who are currently incarcerated, and their families. At the same time, the focus of our work is shifting to efforts to create a restorative justice system in Washtenaw County. Contact Vicar Joe Summers for details.
Faith and Food Garden
Each year, Incarnation members plant and nurture a garden as part of Food Gatherers’ Faith and Food initiative. In one week alone we donated thirty-five pounds of tomatoes! Contact Fran Mayes for more.
The Nicaragua Project
Incarnation is deeply involved in efforts to build a cultural exchange center and eco-hotel in Catarina, Nicaragua, as part of our overall efforts to promote sustainable, inclusive, economic development in that community. The Practice of Presence
Led by Allison Hine, the Practice of Presence is a bi-monthly gathering that uses meditation, chanting, and other practices that help us relax and become truly present to ourselves, each other, and Spirit. 7-9:30 pm, alternate Mondays at the Small House. Free event; donations welcome. Contact Allison to learn about the next session and for instructions for getting to the Small House, which is right next to Incarnation.
