St. Mary's is a vibrant, active, and growing Episcopal Church in the heart of one of America's most diverse and uniquely situated cities. It partners with over 25 community non-profits and organizations, and plays a leadership role in Anchorage. Subsidiaries include the Thomas Center for Senior Leadership and The Playschool at St. Mary's. We are Christ-centered and grounded in the Holy Eucharist and our baptismal covenant. Ministries include social and public policy advocacy, direct aid to those in need, ministry alongside vulnerable populations, early childhood and elder ministries, and creative partnership with churches in the sand lake district of Malawi in Southern Africa and in the Episcopal Diocese of Colombia in South America. We strive each day to live the good news of Jesus!

We offer support and project possibilities to groups and individuals seeking to serve throughout Alaska.

Local community:
F.I.S.H. (“Fellowship in Serving Humanity”) is a volunteer group of Anchorage residents who provide and deliver emergency food to people and families in need.
Ann Spohnholz Community Garden
The Community Garden comprises 24 raised-bed plots on the St. Mary’s campus. WThere is no charge to claim a plot, but we do ask that you donate around 50% of your harvest to a local food bank or similar organization.
Christians for Equality
Christians for Equality is a coalition of Christian leaders, clergy and laity, who come together to:
- offer mutual aid and support for one another
- be a vehicle collaborative action and shared witness
- provide a platform for continuing education.
Interfaith Council of Anchorage
The Interfaith Council of Anchorage is composed of diverse faith communities whose mission is to respond to human need through cooperative effort, dialogue and education.
Mat-Su P.L.U.M.E. Outreach
The Mat-Su P.L.U.M.E. Outreach Association gathers together Mat-Su Borough residents interested in missional Christian communities and assists them within their town or neighborhood to organize around spiritual practice and service.
Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness
The mission of the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness is to advocate for and implement strategies to prevent homelessness and provide housing and work opportunities for all.
Alaska Council on Housing and Homelessness
The Alaska Coalition on Housing and Homelessness (AKCH2) is a statewide organization working to develop strategies to increase the availability of affordable housing and eliminate homelessness in Alaska.
International:
Malawi Children’s Village is a village-based orphan and other vulnerable children support program in Mangochi, Malawi. It now supports over 2,000 HIV/AIDS orphans living with members of their extended family in 37 villages. MCV supports children from birth to eighteen years providing, shelter, food, safety, health care and education until they can live independent healthy lives.
NetsforLife® empowers communities to eliminate malaria by providing life-saving prevention training and long-lasting insecticide-treated nets.
In partnership with corporations, foundations, NGOs and faith-based organizations, NetsforLife® implements integrated malaria-prevention programs in 12 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.
Heifer International’s mission is to work with communities to end world hunger and poverty and to care for the Earth.
International Justice Mission believes that justice for the poor is possible. They are are a global organization that protects the poor from violence in the developing world.
Their global team includes hundreds of lawyers, investigators, social workers, community activists and other professionals at work through 17 field offices.
Episcopal Relief & Development
Episcopal Relief & Development works with Church partners and other local organizations to save lives and transform communities worldwide. This organizations helps rebuild after disasters and empowers people to create lasting solutions that fight poverty, hunger and disease. Working in close to 40 countries, their programs impact the lives of approximately 3 million people around the world.
Episcopal Public Policy Network
The Episcopal Public Policy Network is a grassroots network of Episcopalians across the country dedicated to carrying out the Baptismal Covenant call to “strive for justice and peace” through the active ministry of public policy advocacy.
The EPPN is a part of The Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations located in Washington, DC. The actions, programs, and ministry of the Office of Government Relations are based entirely on policies approved by the Church meeting in General Convention or by the Executive Council.
United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of the Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through United Thank Offering, men, women, and children nurture the habit of giving daily thanks to God. These prayers of thanksgiving start when we recognize and name our many daily blessings. Those who participate in UTO discover that thankfulness leads to generosity.
United Thank Offering is entrusted to promote thank offerings, to receive the offerings, and to distribute the UTO monies to support mission and ministry throughout the Episcopal Church and in invited Provinces of the Anglican Communion in the developing world.

St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

We have a longstanding relationship with the churches in the sand lake district of Malawi and with Malawi Children's Village, 10 km north of Mangochi, Malawi. Work focuses on education and community development.

After our first trip there in 2025, St. Mary's has a deepening connection between the youth of our parish and congregations and youth in a few communities in Colombia. We are excited to continue learning with and from our neighbors in Amazonia!
