St Peter’s Episcopal

St Peter’s Church is the oldest Bahamian Anglican congregation in Florida. They have a rich heritage of High Anglo-Catholic worship. The present church was built by its members. The bricks were handmade on the site, using a small brick-making machine. The church once had an 1892 J.H. & C.S. Odell pipe organ that had been purchased from St Agnes Morning parish in New York in the 1940s. It fell into considerable disrepair by the 1970s and was nearly unplayable. Eventually the pipes were sold to another organ company and dispersed. The 16′ Bourdon was salvaged and incorporated into the organ at St Paul’s Church a few blocks away.

I served St Peter’s as Organist & Choirmaster for about three years during the 1990s, before moving to Ohio.
