Community Gospel Choir at St. James!

St. James Episcopal Church in Vincennes  has been enjoying partnering with the New Life Holy Cathedral and the Black History Preservation Project of Knox County to serve as a rehearsal and performance venue.

This is not a “praise band” but a choir that will be inspired by members’ spirituality, praise, worship and love of music. It is a vocal ensemble that performs gospel music, an American genre rooted in African-American spiritual traditions and the Black church. These choirs, which can be found in churches or as independent community or university groups, blend spirituals, African music, jazz, and contemporary gospel music in their performances. They are characterized by energetic, unified singing, a blend of diverse voices, and a strong sense of community and worship. We are confident a gospel choir here will add greatly to our area’s musical offerings.
