Colorado Episcopal Service Corps

Colorado Episcopal Service Corps embraces and celebrates the diversity of Colorado, from ranchers, to snowboarders and city folk and college communities. Colorado has vegans and cattle ranchers, we have mountains and prairies. The world’s billionaires play on our slopes and our undocumented workers, working poor and homeless struggle to make it through each day. Our programs engage in this diversity around the state, with all of God’s children, rich and poor, while participating in common prayer and spiritual practice.

With a chapter up and running in downtown Denver, at Saint Columba House, and another chapter in the storied mountain town and ranching community of Steamboat Springs at Centennial House, Colorado Episcopal Service Corps is engaging young adults with a compelling program of spiritual formation, Rule of Life, and outstanding opportunities for service and reflection. In the process, Colorado Episcopal Service Corps is tapping into some of the most vibrant communities and churches in the diocese.

In Denver, Colorado ESC provides young adults with a place for spiritual formation and simple living, combining these with service in some of the city’s most effective social agencies and ministries. Denver focuses on issues of urban poverty, including food insecurity, barriers to employment, homelessness, and gentrification. In Steamboat Springs, Centennial House provides young adults with the same opportunities for spiritual formation, but in a much different setting. Steamboat Springs is a community of about 11,000 permanent residents, many of whom are employed in lower paying service jobs supporting the vibrant tourist industry. Centennial House members will work for a variety of local non-profit organizations that serve and support those in our community with financial and social struggles.

Serving a 32-hour week, Colorado Episcopal Service Corps interns set eight hours per week. aside for spiritual reflection and discernment. Interns are supported by a lay formation team, individual supervision, and spiritual direction. Corps members in both locations will come together for prayer and retreat time over several times during the program year.
