St. John’s Episcopal Church, Zion Parish, is over 200 years old and was established in 1811 by the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland with its first services held in Old Paint Branch Chapel in Calverton, MD. Over its long history, the church has experienced significant damage and destruction as a result of storms, a tornado, lightning and fires.

We strive to serve our local community and beyond as we feed the hungry, nurture the homeless, and welcome all God’s children to grow in Christ. We strive to make a strong impact in Beltsville and our surrounding area as a resource for the community and as an agent of change.

We are very intentional in using our resources of treasure, time, and talent to grow spiritually and as a faith community. With the full participation of our adults and children, we offer personal and spiritual development for the whole St. John’s family, within a culturally diverse congregation.

The church has a diverse membership from all around the world, of every age, ethnicity, and culture, who worship as one, to the glory of God every Sunday at two services.

St. John’s is very active in providing outreach in the local area acting as a SHARE food program site which provides groceries at deep discounts. In addition, St. John’s partners with Transitional Housing of Prince George’s County to provide SHARE food donations to participating families, to provide food for their children during the summer months, to provide backpacks and school supplies at the beginning of each school year, and to provide care packages at Christmas and Easter. The church is also home to several different 12-Step programs.

The mission of the Haiti Micah Project is to provide lifesaving needs of a daily meal, clean water, healthcare, clothing, educational assistance, and vocational training for children and young adults living in Mirebalais, Haiti that will prepare them for responsible lives in their comm unity after graduating from high school.
Haiti is a nation in crisis and a humanitarian disaster. Haiti has been devastated by natural disasters, disease, and chronic poverty, and continues to suffer from the aftermath. The last two years alone have brought so much pain and suffering including insecurity, fear, famine, and despair. Amidst this backdrop, cholera has returned to Haiti, killing so many, especially children. The country is experiencing a level of crime and violence that has never been experienced before. The people of Haiti are crying for the restoration of peace and stability.
The Haiti Micah Project Committee is a part of St. John’s International Outreach Ministry and has been involved in various fundraising activities to assist in this especially important mission. Due to the Committee’s commitment and dedication to the mission, we will continue to plan fundraising events as we move forward into the future. We hope you all can continue to be a part of the journey in fulfilling this especially important mission.
In addition to the $5,000 committed in the St. John’s budget, HMP benefited from the generosity of church. Haiti Micah Project (HMP) offers their gratitude for your unwavering support. Through St. John’s, we have helped HMP improve the lives of children and young people in Mirebalais, Haiti.
