Food Pantry
The food pantry operates each Wednesday from 9-11 and serves approximately 50 families each week. Emergency daily food items are located in a food basket on the Parish Hall front porch. Additional food is provided for food pantry families with children, especially during school holidays. Backpack meals and snacks are also delivered to Moon Lake Elementary School each week while school is in session. Currently, 13 students are served in this program. Our food pantry volunteers also coordinate senior homebound meals and emergency meals for Mentone. These are either delivered or are available for pickup during food pantry operation. Food pantry clients often have other life sustaining needs. Several designated funds are available to help those in the community with these needs which often includes: utility and housing assistance, school supply assistance, holiday meal assistance, cleaning and sanitary needs, medical travel assistance, emergency dental assistance, and assistance based off of individual needs. We often receive food pantry monetary donations and donations of food stock which we are most grateful for.
Snack in a Backpack Program
St. Joseph's provides two-day meal kits to needy students at Moon Lake Elementary School every week while school is in session. Similar small meals and snacks are given out to food pantry families with children during school holidays. Currently, there are 13 children receiving this backpack snack bag.
