Interfaith Refugee Ministry

Share a story

Interfaith Refugee Ministry's task is to assist refugees with the basic necessities when they first arrive in Wilmington and surrounding areas. This includes, but is not limited to, assistance with housing, food, clothing, employment, learning English, and cultural orientation.

The ultimate goal is to help refugees become self-reliant, emotionally secure and culturally adjusted in their new home.

Each year, Interfaith Refugee Ministry resettles new refugee families from around the world. Our staff, working with volunteers, civic groups and faith communities, ensures each refugee will receive basic initial support as they begin a new life in a strange land. We try to provide a bridge for these persecuted people who are coming out of the darkness of a shattered life into the bright hope of a better future.

Interfaith Refugee Ministry is a local affiliate office of the refugee resettlement service of the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of The Episcopal Church. Located in New Bern and Wilmington, in the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, Interfaith Refugee Ministry provides a safe haven for refugees resettled in eastern North Carolina, caring for their most vital needs and providing the training and skills they require to thrive in years to come. Through partnerships and collaboration with the local community, Interfaith Refugee Ministry has served as a model of successful resettlement and integration.

Interfaith Refugee Ministry works in partnership with community partners, congregations, and volunteers to carry out its work welcoming refugees to New Bern and Wilmington. From providing space for English or job skills classes, to mentoring refugee children, practicing English skills with parents, or accompanying a family on their first trip to an American grocery store, opportunities abound for you and your congregation to make a positive impact on the life of a family and on your wider community.
