How We Worship
The Holy Eucharist
The celebration of the Holy Eucharist is an act of joy and praise, which draws its principal meaning from the Easter proclamation of the resurrection.
Communion
All who are drawn to God and seek Christ are welcome to receive communion.
We receive communion by extending our hands for the bread, either eating it and receiving the wine from the chalice or holding the bread and waiting for the small intinction cup in which to dip it. Consecrated rice wafers are available for those with wheat allergies. Please ask the priest at the time of your communion if you desire one.
If you have a hearing aid equipped with telecoil capability, please note that the church sanctuary has been equipped with this technology.
Our Sanctuary
The main entrance to the church is from the narthex, which serves as a lobby to the main sanctuary where the services are held. As you enter the sanctuary, your eye will be drawn to the altar area at the far end. The altar is the large rectangular table in the center, covered with a cloth, and decorated with candles and flowers. During Holy Communion, the bread and wine are consecrated on the altar. Behind the altar and on either side of it are rows of chairs where the clergy and choirs sit during services.
As you face the altar, you will also see the pulpit to its right. It is here that the service leaders and clergy read the scriptures and preach the sermons. To the left of the altar is a baptismal font, its prominent position symbolizing the centrality of baptism to our identity as Christians.
Baptisms are celebrated during regular services on principal feast Sundays (All Saints', The Baptism of Our Lord, the Easter Vigil, and Pentecost), augmented by certain other Sundays.

Ministries
THE BREAKFAST AT ST. ANDREW'S
The Breakfast at St. Andrew's was founded in 1982 to provide nutrition and fellowship to anyone in need. Currently the Breakfast Program serves 100+ meals daily and is run by a 12-member board of directors. More than 100 volunteers, many from outside the church, donate their time on a regular basis. Every morning from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., we welcome guests who come for a hot meal and the opportunity to enjoy it in a safe comfortable space. Guests include the young and old. Some are experiencing homelessness or struggling with addiction or mental health challenges, but most are working men and women who are trying to make ends meet.
A non-profit organization, the Breakfast at St. Andrew’s is the only program in the Ann Arbor community serving a meal without charge or questions, every day of the year at the same time and place.
Sunday School
For children and youth age 3–18, Sunday School classes are offered every Sunday from 9:45 am until they join their families at Communion.
Social Justice Ministry
The Social Justice Ministry at St. Andrew's was established in 2018. Thus far, our mission has been to foster a greater understanding of the roots and complexities of black and white relations in Ann Arbor and to inspire action in the Ann Arbor community that would result in addressing racism in Ann Arbor.
SJM sponsors a variety of events throughout the year. Recent events have included a walking tour of the underground railroad in Ann Arbor and co-sponsoring a Washtenaw Reads 2020 book discussion on "Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen" by Jose Antonio Vargas.
Episcopal Health Ministry
The Episcopal Health Ministries @ St. Andrew's is a group of parishioners with an interest in health and healing within a spiritual context. Meeting since 2005, the contribution of social workers, health educators, clergy and hospital chaplains as well as nurses and others continues to be sought.
EHM meets on the second Tuesday of every other month at 6:00 pm. If you have any questions, please contact Ann Garvin, or just join us!
