The Church of the Messiah is a member of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Tennessee and in the Anglican Communion.
Our mission is to be a growing witness of our faith in Jesus Christ in the midst of community through the worship and sacramental ministry in the Episcopal tradition. As a community of faith we seek to grow spiritually, in our Lord Jesus Christ, through worship, study, fellowship and outreach.
The Church of the Messiah was established in 1834, and the cornerstone of the current sanctuary was set in 1887. Over 3000 people attended the ceremony, including former Tennessee Gov. John Calvin Brown, Maj. Gen. CSA. Gov. and Mrs. Brown provided funding for the building, and the church was built in memory of their daughter Daisy.
Since its founding, the Church has grown to reflect the changing times in which parishioners worshiped and served God. We are a healthy community of faith, reaching out to serve our community in Christian love and discipleship.
