Emmanuel Church (estab. 1844) is located in the Virginia Piedmont town of Chatham (population 1,300) which is also the county seat of Pittsylvania County and home to Chatham Hall, the Episcopal-affiliated boarding high school for girls. The nave is carpenter gothic in style and houses an 1865 Hamill Pipe Organ. In addition to the worship space, the church building includes a parish hall, kitchen, conference room, small reception/receiving room or parlor, nursery room, Sunday school room, rector's office, music director's office, several storage closets, store room and an undercroft.
In May, 2019 we celebrated our 175th anniversary. This is a time of renewal as we think about our history and where God is calling us in this day. 125 years ago, Emmanuel founded Chatham Hall, www.chathamhall.edu. We are developing creative ministries together as we strive to live deeper into our baptismal promises.
