TRINITY LUTHERAN SOUP KITCHEN
We participate at Trinity Lutheran Church in their soup kitchen and collect food for use in food pantries one Saturday a month.
OUTREACH
The Church of St. Andrew offers its facilities for a variety of community needs. A number of community groups use our parish hall for meetings, and we act as a shelter for Project Hospitality at night. We have housed and fed volunteers working on Staten Island to repair the damage of Hurricane Sandy.
The parish has taken part in the Heart of the Home Campaign, helping to outfit homes damaged during Hurricane Sandy.
We supported the diocesan program, Carpenters’ Kids, to assist children in Tanzania as well as Coins for Change, which is administered by ECW to help rural and migrant workers.
At Christmas we collect presents with our Giving Tree program which are donated to the Seaman’s Society for Children and Families.
St. Andrew’s is a member of the Building Bridges Interfaith Coalition, which meets monthly on Staten Island.
HOLIDAY FAIR
The Holiday Fair takes place every November. Parishioners work throughout the year in preparing homemade items to sell at the fair. The fair also includes luncheons, a parish dinner and a visit from Santa for the children.
FRIGHT NIGHT
Fright Night is a very popular event that takes place over a two week period every October. Parishioners dress up as ghouls and goblins and inhabit Burch Hall as a kind of haunted house. Visitors love investigating the hall and being “scared” by its inhabitants. Parishioners work all year long to prepare for Fright Night, and it is enjoyed by a large number of people from all over Staten Island.
