Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church

St. Timothy’s is a parish within the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada. The parish was founded in 1946 and is still a vibrant presence in downtown Henderson. Our mission is to proclaim Jesus Christ at all times and in all places, bringing the whole Faith to all people. We use the Book of Common Prayer as the structure for our liturgy and worship. Lay persons and clergy participate together in the weekly celebration of the Holy Eucharist as we pray, sing, read scripture, and receive communion. We offer ourselves, our lives and labors for the purposes of God as lift our hearts and minds to God together in community. We believe that the Holy Scriptures are the Word of God, and we believe that God still speaks to us through the Bible. The weekly sermons are usually focused on the scripture readings. At St. Timothy’s we carry on a long history of service in the wider church and outreach to the community. We participate in diocesan and national church events by sending parish representatives, and we host a neighborhood feeding program by sharing our facility with Friends in the Desert. We also welcome several community groups that meet at the church. Other small groups of people meet at the church for support, prayer, and weekday communion services. Explore our website to learn more about the activities taking place at St. Timothy’s. We welcome your inquiry about celebrating life events such as baptism, confirmation, marriage, ministry to the sick or home-bound, and burials. For further information, please fill out the contact form on this website. Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome at St. Timothy’s. Come, and see. God Bless You.

The Friends in the Desert Foundation (http://www.friendsinthedesert.com/) is a charitable organization which serves hot meals to homeless or otherwise needy individuals six days a week in the kitchen and parish hall of St. Timothy’s. Sack lunches are prepared and offered on days that hot meals are not served. In addition to a growing number of meaningful programs, when supplies are available, Friends in the Desert also provides basic toiletry items, socks, access to a visiting nurse, referrals, bus transportation, plus other needed resources such as safe dwelling options, health care, dental and other services. Unlike many other meal programs, they do not require an ID for participation in our programs. All in need are welcome. Las Vegas, whose homeless population has doubled in the past decade to about 12,000 people in and around the city, joined several other cities across the country that have adopted or considered ordinances limiting the distribution of charitable meals in parks. Most have restricted the time and place of such handouts, hoping to discourage homeless people from congregating and, in the view of officials, ruining efforts to beautify downtowns and neighborhoods. Friends in the Desert offers hot meals prepared by volunteers or donor organizations and served to our guests by the volunteers. This is a table service where the guests are seated around tables bringing together as many as 8 visiting friends per table in a family style atmosphere. We feed over 80 guests at each meal service. At all our hot meal services we have a variety of donated food, snacks, fresh fruit and vegetables, plus all types bread and rolls for “take-out” that allow our Friends to bring food “home” and share with their family. Most often this also serves as a morning or afternoon meal the following day.
