Volunteer opportunities
Ministries
Holy Innocents Food Pantry
The parish hall is set up like a supermarket. The guests come in and select the food they want. Each family or person is given one or more bag depending on the size of the family. We serve ~140 families.
Hours of operation: Second and Fourth Wednesdays of the month, 4:00-5:30 PM. Seniors and those with disabilities may shop as early as 3 pm. Guests enter the sanctuary from Church St. to wait for entry. Volunteers are needed for set up around 11 am.
Please check our Food Pantry Facebook for updates.
Thrift Store
The parish hall undercroft has held a community thrift shop for over 40 years. Items are priced to support the needs of our local community. Unserviceable and overstock donations are processed by our third party textile recycling partner as part of our committment to creation care. For up to date information see our Thrift Shop Facebook.
Canterbury at West Point
Canterbury is a place to:
- Be authentically yourself. We are a fully affirming community. Every single beloved child of God is valued, welcome, and safe in our campus ministry. For a couple hours a week let down whatever walls you might have up and rest.
- Bring your hard questions. We work in community to understand God and ourselves more clearly. Exploring your curiosity and doubts are essential to growing in faith (they certainly won't go away shoved in a closet).
- Nourish your soul. Connecting with God and enjoying fellowship with people who really know and see you is spiritually grounding. It recharges your spiritual battery.
No pressure! Come when you can, come as you are, decompress with us. We're here for you, not to be one more obligation in your life. You don't even need to be Episcopalian. All are welcome.
What's Episcopal campus ministry like at West Point?
- Tuesday Nights we meet in Thayer Hall for discussion and food, sometimes a game, movie or guest speaker, and abbreviated Eucharist.
- Third Sundays we travel to El Buen Pastor to assist their ministry serving meals to the housing insecure population in Newburgh, including numerous veterans.
- Twice a year we offer a weekend retreat off post to make space to decompress longer and dig deeper.
- Episcopal worship is held during Cadet Basic and at Camp Buckner over the summer.
- Rides are available to Sunday worship at Holy Innocents in Highland Falls, right outside Thayer Gate.
We know, your time is precious and there's never enough of it at USMA. So why spend time with us?
Cadets
We know, your time is precious and there's never enough of it at USMA. So why spend time with us?
Christian formation is a lifelong journey best done with company! One of the marks of a mature Christian—and leader—is faithful discernment. Discernment is asking questions with an open heart to gain clarity and understanding, listening for where God's purpose is leading. It requires deepening knowledge of yourself and honesty with yourself and those you discern with. Campus ministry is a supportive community to grow in faith and spiritual maturity with friends discerning this same stage of life.
Parents
Launching a child into adulthood at West Point is unlike any other experience. We delight in providing a safe spiritual place for all cadets to land, a refuge when their challenging path feels heavy, but also, to make space for joy! This ministry isn't funded by USMA. We run on grants from Episcopal Church sources and fundraising by Church of the Holy Innocents Highland Falls. Parent support has been essential to maintaining our full schedule of fellowship meals, outings and retreats.
The Community Garden at Holy Innocents
Our mission is to plant the love of gardening in the youth of our community and encourage the community's understanding of sustainable living. Visit our Community Garden Facebook!
