St. Mary's Church, Woodlawn

Share a story

St. Mary's is the longest, continuously operating faith center in Woodlawn, Maryland. Established in 1873 it has provided Episcopal worship since that time. The community grew rapidly in the 1950's and 1960's with Social Security and Health Care headquarters within a few minutes. The Baltimore Beltway is 5 minutes away. St. Mary's works with the sister church Christ the King to sponsor many activities for youth and adults. Special services, choir, etc. are often held combining each congregations distinct characteristics. St. Mary's congregation worships in the National Historic Register's 1873 sanctuary which is described as "country gothic".  The two manual Roger's organ supplies rousing music along with an active choir. St. Mary's supports one of the few, formally recognized Youth Vestry which regularly participates in services and and special activities. We acknowledge an "open table" that welcomes all who believe in and practice Christ's charge to love and support one another. All faiths, all practices are welcome.
