St. Mary's Episcopal Church

Share a story

On June 23,1886, Bishop Daniel S. Tuttle of Montana, Utah, and Idaho, consecrated St. Mary's Episcopal Church. The small mission chapel, 22 by 40 feet, cost about $1000, of which Bishop Tuttle contributed $351.

In his report, the Bishop noted, "I heartily wish the good example set by the people of Emmett might be frequently followed. I mean by building inexpensively, though with churchly taste, and paying promptly, and consecrating at once." Bishop Tuttle must have been delighted by St. Mary's, not only the first church building in the Emmett valley, but also the second Episcopal Church in Idaho Territory.

The past lives on...The past of St. Mary's lives on in the work and the sacrifice, the giving and the talking, the shared joys and sorrows of all those men, women, and the children who have contributed a part to it's growth. No matter if the part be large or small, the truth and the goodness of each person has become a part of the religious life of this community.
