St. Michael's Episcopal Church

Share a story

The mission of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church is to glorify God through worship, fellowship and education; and to reflect Christ’s love though sharing, caring, and serving our  parish family and the community. The church building was erected in 1895, and enlarged in 1962 with architecture maintaining the 19th century Carpenter’s Gothic style. The Parish Hall was built in 1950. Although the complex spans many decades of intermittent construction, it presents a beautifully blended unity and adequately serves the worship and programs of the church at the present time. The Parish Hall was named Fisher Hall in memory and honor of Eleanor Marshall Fisher and her son Richard M. Fisher. The beautifully refurbished hall is now in almost daily use for parish, civic and social events and programs.

The Gazebo in the town park (directly behind the church) was built by St. Michael’s under the supervision of E. F. Herrington. The gazebo was presented to the Town of Waynesboro at the Centennial celebration. It has become favorite place for picnics, weddings, and special events such as St. Michael’s Easter Egg Hunts and the Blessing of the Animals.

For St. Michael’s parishioners, our church is a place to deepen our relationship with God and share with others the comfort, inspiration, and beauty available through the ritual of traditional Episcopal Liturgy. The rich heritage of The Book of Common Prayer serves as foundation for our service on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. An Order of Compline is read occasionally throughout the month.
