St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Richmond is located in historic Richmond's Battery Park, just minutes from downtown. St. Philip's is a welcoming diverse community of energetic and inquiring people striving to spread God's love. If you are looking for a church home or would just like to visit, we hope you'll join us. All are welcome and encouraged to come and experience God’s love at St. Philip’s because LOVE LIVES HERE AND YOU MATTER.
Join Us On Sunday
We extend an invitation to you to attend our worship services on Sundays at 8am (Traditional and Contemplative) or at 10:30am (Contemporary yet Traditional with music). Our 10:30am Sunday service can also be viewed on Zoom, YouTube and Facebook.
On a Sunday …
When you pass through the red entrance doors, you will experience the radical welcome and hospitality that St. Philip's is known for. Following the service, you will be encouraged to make your way to the Ruth L. Little Parish Hall for a cup of coffee or tea and some snacks. Our spacious atrium provides an opportunity to fellowship before or after the services.
During our services we encourage our children to be part of the life of the church. We invite those with little ones to enjoy our PrayGround that allows kids of all ages the space to move and parents and grandparents an opportunity to engage them during worship. A nursery is available should parents need private space for parenting needs. Sunday School classes for children aged 6 and older are on the first and third Sundays. We as a church are engaged in the churchwide formation using Feasting on the Word.
About our campus
We have on-street parking. You may need to park a block away, but the walk is short. We also have designated spaces on Sundays for those who are mobility challenged. Our campus is equipped to handle persons in wheelchairs and scooters and the parking spaces on Essex Street are accessible.
We hope that when you visit St. Philip's you will feel welcomed and experience God’s love at St. Philip’s because: LOVE LIVES HERE AND YOU MATTER.

Ministries
St. Francis Food Pantry
St. Philip's works to address the hunger issue in our neighborhood with our St. Francis Food Pantry. We distribute food on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month between 9:30 am to 10:30 am. We currently serve 80 to 100 families during each distribution.
This schedule may be subject to change around holidays, so please contact the church with any questions.
We also pick up food from the Richmond FeedMore area (formerly known as the Food Bank) on 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 8:00 am.
We need help with both food pickup (Thursdays) and food distribution (Fridays). To find out more about helping to feed our neighbors, contact Cynthia Dyson (food distribution and food collection) at the church office at 321-1266.
Knights of St. Philip's
The Knights of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church was organized on the Eve of St. Mark’s Day, April 24, 1961. The main objective of the order of men is to demonstrate by concerted effort in prayer, giving and work the love we have for our parish and its effectiveness upon the community. The members of the Knights believe that it is an honor to work, pray and give for the spread of God’s Kingdom here on earth. In the name of this order, we shall work as one for the furtherance of this part of Our Lord’s Vineyard, solely to His Honor and His Glory. Our motto is “To Work—To Pray –To Give”
Any active male adult communicant of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in good standing who is willing to take an active part in the prayer life of the group may be considered for membership. We encourage all eligible males through special membership activities and personal contacts to become members of our organization. Currently, the Knights have 34 members. The meetings are held monthly with the exception of the summer months, July and August.
The Knights have financially supported the following projects in the Church:
- Hosted Men’s Day, Lenten Dinner, CARITAS and Fellowship Hour
- Donated funds for church picnic, youth ministry, installation of lights in the atrium, installation of card and pencil holders, sanctuary flowers, stripping and waxing of floors in the parish hall, Valentine Ball, purchasing of dishwasher, replacement of tables in the parish hall
Episcopal Church Women
St. Philip’s Episcopal Church chapter of Episcopal Church Women is part of the National Episcopal Church Women. The common denominator of our members is to love God and to desire to do His work. The ECW mission is to “empower women to do Christ's ministry in the world.” The vision of the ECW is “for all women of the Episcopal Church to become a vibrant blend of all ages, coming together as a peacemaking, healing part of the Church. We aspire to be a Godspark-shining and sharing the love of Christ.”
