Established in 1891 by the Martin Family of Hampton County as a memorial to Alice Martin Marshall and her daughter, the Church of the Heavenly Rest is a small but faithful and worshipful church in rural South Carolina.
The small carpenter gothic church is nestled in over fifty acres of quiet, wooded grounds, offering a place of respite, prayer, and rest to all who visit. Like the words inscribed in stone above the entrance – “My house shall be called the house of prayer for all people” Isaiah 56:7 – the church is a welcome place to all who come to pray and listen for the presence of God.
Heavenly Rest is rooted in the Episcopal tradition and part of the Diocese of South Carolina, a diocese of the Episcopal Church, part of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
There are not regular services at Heavenly Rest, but there are events throughout the year.
