Evergreen Christian Outreach (EChO) provides assistance in a variety of ways to those in need in the Evergreen mountain communities. Among the services provided: groceries, used clothing, housewares, rent and mortgage assistance, as well as assistance with other critical bills including licensed child care, utilities, prescriptions and auto repair. We help more than 300 families every quarter. In 2010, EChO was the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit of the Year, and in 2012 we were named the Conifer Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit of the Year.
In 1985, Fr. Bob Bryan of Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Evergreen launched an emergency food and clothing closet at the church. Soon, other congregations were invited to participate. Within five years, the ministry had moved from the closet in the church to Whitney House, and then to Bancroft Hall, on the Transfiguration campus. Today, the ministry continues to share space with Transfiguration, although EChO receives support from 20 churches, thousands of donors, and a score of organizations.
