St. Andrew's Episcopal Church

Share a story

A classic worship space of stone and stained glass houses this open-minded and affirming congregation. Our big-tent ethos unites people of a wide range of opinions around Jesus' table, and our heart for mission takes us into relationship with schools and feeding programs in Kansas City, as well as our partner school and congregation in Haiti. We seek to embody the mustard tree of the Kingdom, with deep roots supporting wide branches to welcome all.

Opportunities for mission groups

St. Andrew's has a long-term partnership with St. Augustin's Church and School in Maniche, Haiti, through which we fund nearly all of the school's operations. In Kansas City, St. Andrew's operates the following programs: Andie's Pantry, which builds relationships with and provides nutritional support for families at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School; the Free Store, an annual event collaborating with other churches and organizations to provide food and cold-weather clothing; a Pet Ministry, which provides assistance for people in need who have pets; and Sister Berta's Friendship Circles, in which small groups of St. Andrew's women come alongside mothers at Operation Breakthrough to provide friendship and coaching. St. Andrew's also has partnerships with the following community organizations, through which we provide funding and volunteer support: Gordon Parks Elementary, Benjamin Banneker Elementary, Kansas City Community Gardens, Nourish KC/St. Paul's Pantry, Rose Brooks Center, St. James United Methodist Church, Welcome House, and Jewish Vocational Services. St. Andrew's also provides space for several recovery-group meetings.

Ministries

CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRIES

Children and Youth Ministries

We offer Godly Play for preschool kids and Sunday school for kids in elementary school -- as well as Children's Chapel during the 10:15 a.m. worship. Youth Group meets Sunday late afternoons, and our Acolyte program involves more than 50 youth. Our Boy Scout and Cub Scout Troop/Pack 16 is strong and has been part of St. Andrew's ministries for more than 90 years.

HAITI PARTNERSHIP MINISTRY

Mission Trips and Partnerships

We have a 25-year partnership with St. Augustin's Episcopal Church and School in rural Maniche, Haiti. The school educates about 300 children per year (preschool through 7th grade) and serves a hot lunch daily during the school year. St. Andrew's supports the teachers' salaries as well as the feeding program. We also take an annual mission trip to renew connections with our partners in Haiti.

Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles

Racial Reconciliation

Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
