St. Christopher’s Church is broadly inter-generational, multi-cultural and international. We are a local congregation in Prince George’s County, MD, an area where 63 languages are spoken. We’re about 6 miles outside of Washington, D.C. and we’re part of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, The Episcopal Church, and the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Members of St. Christopher’s were originally born in more than ten different nations, and many were part of Anglican congregations in their native countries. The Episcopal Church, the branch of the Anglican Church in the United States, is also a place where people and families of other or mixed Christian traditions often find a home.

Sunday

8:00 am

English

Our early service is quiet by design. All the essentials of the service are present, but there is no music. A couple dozen of our parishioners attend this service more than any other, because it suits their schedules and/or temperament.

English

This is our main service starting at 11:00AM most of the year and at 10:00 AM during the summer; it includes organ, piano and our Jubilate Choir. Here you will find our love of singing and prayer and our lingering in worship. The songs intentionally draw from different cultural traditions.

First and third Sundays

1:00 pm

Igbo

On first and third Sundays of the month in the afternoon, we hold our Igbo language services. Bible readings, prayers, and sermon are all in Igbo.

Wednesday

6:00 pm

English

At 6:00 pm on Wednesdays we have an informal service of Evening Prayer, Bible study and Holy Communion. We especially want people who may work on the weekends to have an opportunity for corporate worship. Lay members take leadership at this service.

Meal Programs

Volunteers and donations are welcomed to this outreach ministry which feeds lunch to the homeless and families in need in our community on the fourth Wednesday of alternating months. This important ministry takes place at First United Methodist Church, 6201 Belcrest Road, Hyattsville,

Melwood Job Coaching

Career Services and Education

One of our outreach initiatives is with Melwood, a nonprofit organization that, among other things, provides job coaching to those with differing abilities to enable them to find job opportunities in the community. St. Christopher's is a job coaching site where Melwood provides us with cleaning services on Tuesday mornings. In the almost three years that we have served as a job coaching site, over 30 individuals have gone on to find employment. Indeed, this initiative meets the goal of our Ministry Model to extend outreach to New Carrollton and beyond!
