St. Alban's Episcopal Church
Share a story
St. Alban’s is a welcoming and inclusive community of people who gather from Washington, DC, and from areas of Maryland and Virginia because this is where we find a community that gives us strength, brings us joy, and encourages us to grow. Some of us have never left the DC area; others come from or have lived in many other countries.
We welcome the faithful, the seeker, and the doubter, for God’s embrace is wide and God’s good news is for all.

Iona's Active Wellness Program
Iona’s Active Wellness Program at St. Alban’s offers older adults a chance to have a nourishing lunch with friends, take part in a fitness program, participate in workshops and educational programs, computer classes, and much more. The program is open to active DC residents age 60 and older.
Assistance at Harriet Tubman Elementary School
Located at the corner of Irving Street and 13th Street NW, Harriet Tubman Elementary School is a public school that serves approximately an equal number of African-American and Hispanic students; 95% receive free and reduced lunch. We have established a long-term relationship with this community—its students, staff, and parents—through a variety of activities such as mentoring, reading programs, music programs, and after-school clubs.
St. Alban's Opportunity Shop
The Opportunity Shop is St. Alban’s oldest outreach program. Located on the lower level of Satterlee Hall, the Op Shop thrift store has offered quality goods at reasonable prices since 1955. Proceeds support those in need in our community and beyond.
The Op Shop accepts donations of clothing and shoes for women, men and children; bedding, curtains, drapes and linens; household items and home decor; toys and jewelry. Donations are accepted at the Op Shop front desk or the rear door off the Rectory driveway. A donation form is provided for tax purposes, upon request.
Volunteers who staff the Op Shop enjoy the satisfaction of helping people find what they need. More volunteers are always welcome.
Christ House Meals
The mission of Christ House is to provide comprehensive and compassionate health care to sick, homeless men and women in the District of Columbia. Located in Adams Morgan, Christ House is a 34-bed medical facility. St. Alban's volunteers prepare and serve dinner to residents and staff twice a month, on the 1st and 3rd Fridays. That adds up to more than 1,100 meals per year.
Grate Patrol
In cooperation with the Salvation Army’s 100-year-old ministry, parishioners from St. Alban’s prepare and serve a nutritious evening meal to hundreds of persons living on the streets of Washington, D.C. Our commitment is to serve meals twice a month to our neighbors experiencing housing insecurity. Adults prepare and deliver a simple meal on the 2nd Friday of each month. Youth make and distribute meals every 4th Friday of the month during the school year. Parishioners may get involved as often as they like.
If interested in volunteering or to learn more about the Grate Patrol, please contact Susan Morris (srm3108@aol.com or 301-221-1250)
Adult Forums
On most Sundays during the year, adults at St. Alban's gather for a forum hour, where they can learn together and discuss their experiences and concerns as Christians in the nation’s capital.
Topics range from church history, central issues in our faith (prayer, the creeds, theology) to major concerns in our world (opioids, climate change).

Hope and Resurrection School
Hope and Resurrection School is a secondary school for boys and girls in Atiaba, South Sudan. It is one of only 22 high schools in South Sudan, which has 1.5 million children and one of the world’s highest rates of illiteracy. St. Alban’s has helped build a girls’ dormitory for 74 students, funds two scholarships for girls and pays the annual salary of an assistant headmaster and an English teacher. Students and staff stay in touchwith St. Alban's so we can keep up with their progress, and recently shared the school's 10th anniversary report.
Saviour's School
St. Saviour’s School in Zarka, Jordan, is operated by the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, our companion diocese, and accepts students regardless of religious affiliation. St. Alban's has restocked the school's library, provided a new Braille machine for sight-impaired students, and raised funds for scholarships.
