Church of the Atonement

“Through inspirational preaching, effective teaching and collective commitment of every member, we can open the doors of The Episcopal Church of the Atonement to the Community by becoming a focal point of enrichment for all.”

To all who are weary and need rest, to all who are friendless and need friendship, to all who believe in God and wish to worship him, to all who are grateful and wish to give thanks, to all who hunger for prayer and want to pray, to all who hurt and want healing, to all who know sin and need the Savior, the congregation of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement opens wide our doors and bids you WELCOME!

We extend to you a warm welcome and appreciate the time you have taken to visit our website. If you are in the area we hope that you will come and join us for worship.

The goal of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement is to be God's loving hands in our community. We are a supportive congregation for all seeking and wanting to share Jesus’ love in a welcoming and inclusive community where the Bible, human reason, and the traditions of the Church are celebrated.

We understand we are given to each other – God’s people – to look for and encourage the active expression of Christ’s presence in each one of us. Together we help one another recognize that we are, indeed, God’s beloved and that we are to respond to the One who loved us first by recognizing the God-given gifts each person has for ministry. We affirm those gifts God calls us to offer within the community and in our daily lives, and we work together to match our gifts to the needs of the church and the wider community.

What we gain from our worship experience helps to sustain us in our lives of faith. We think of ourselves as a ministering congregation: ministering to the needs of our members and to the community at large.

We believe that ministry is carrying out Christ's work in the world, and that Jesus is both the model for ministry and the source of energizing power which calls our ministries into being. We find this an exciting and challenging place in which to minister; sharing power as partners in identifying and holding-up the ministry of all persons.

As Christians we see every human being as a beloved child of God. We follow in the footsteps of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who we believe reveals the nature of God. Our religious tradition tells us that meaning and purpose in life are found in giving of ourselves for others.

Christianity says, “Love God and your neighbor as yourself.” This love is not a feeling but behavior: kindness, compassion, justice making. Our church offers community: folks who help each other find the way, companions who share the journey.
