Church of the Good Shepherd
Share a story
Good Shepherd is a classic turn of the 19th century "little country church on a hill". Founded in 1910 in the village of Pine Grove on the outskirts of Bluemont, Good Shepherd has served the people of both Loudoun and Clarke Counties for over a century. The sanctuary is graced with five lovely stained glass windows, given to the glory of God in memory of our founding families. The acoustics in the small sanctuary are astounding, and with our most talented music director on piano, her husband on violin, and various parishioners joining in with other instruments on occasion, we make a joyful noise to the Lord every Sunday morning, interspersing traditional and praise songs from The Hymnal, Lift Every Voice And Sing (LEVAS), and Wonder, Love, and Praise (WLP). We enjoy hearty refreshments together after Holy Eucharist services. And our lay-led Morning Prayer services provide a venue for spiritual and leadership growth as many of our parishioners and guests offer homilies on those Sundays.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Since 2015 we have collected and donated items for OCC and worked with young families in the community to create a spirit of community infused by the joy of giving. Our hope is to continue to grow this project to send more Christmas boxes while inviting more of our neighbors to join in.
EPISCOPAL CHURCH OF LIBERIA
Over the years we have developed a special relationship with Rev. Fr. Michael Sie of the Episcopal Church of Liberia. Father Michael visits us as often as he can and always leads an inspired, spirit-filled service. Last summer we sent him home with an organ for his church, as well as prayer books, choir and chorister vestments, and other altar guild items for his church, St. Augustine's, in Barnardsville, Liberia.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
One of our young parishioners built a Stations of the Cross nature trail through the woods that surround our church for his Boy Scout Eagle Project. The effort incorporated iconography that had been previously donated, which the scouts mounted to posts along the pathway, bounded by rope, that starts from our lower patio and proceeds up the hill behind the church to the cross. At the top of the pathway, looking back toward the church, a bench for prayer and contemplation was installed at the station where Jesus' body is laid in the tomb. We have laminated narrative and prayer sheets at the first station, available to worshippers year round.
