Kinship With Haiti

Creation Care/Community Gardens

Kinship With Haiti is an effort to transform relationships between US partners and their Haitian counterparts using solar energy as a catalyst for change.  These solar energy systems are designed to provide electricity to rural villages without access to power or access to more dependable supplies of electricity in larger population centers.  kWh works with these partnerships to design systems appropriate for the needs of the Haitian school, clinic or community in terms of day-to-day life as well as building self-sustaining models of economic, social and environmental resiliency.

The projects begin with listening sessions to identify needs in the communities that might be addressed through solar energy systems.  The framework for the relationships is built upon:

  • Solidarity
  • Partnership
  • Capacity Building
  • Sustainability
  • Adaptability

The long-term goal of kWh is to address issues of economic development, social justice and environmental sustainability through kinship between members of the Episcopal Church, other NGOs and foundations working in Haiti to address the every present needs and challenges of daily life.
