St. Francis Episcopal Church is located on Highway 76 in Pauma Valley, about 20 miles northeast of Escondido. The lovely adobe brick church and St. Clare Hall are at the foot of Palomar Mountain, site of Cal Tech's Palomar Observatory. The church seats approximately eighty and, according to a visiting priest, is a "sweet place for worship." St. Clare Hall has a well appointed nursery. Attractive gardens, including a Memorial Garden, are features of the grounds. Gorgeous views of Pauma Valley are seen on the way to St. Francis, especially coming from Valley Center on Cole Grade Road. In addition to the Pauma Valley Country Club and surrounding houses, the valley is home to orange groves, other agriculture, several Indian reservations, a few restaurants, and other businesses. The parishioners, who live in PaumaValley, Valley Center, and beyond, are friendly and caring.
Ministries include food collection and distribution in cooperation with the Pauma Valley Neighborhood Healthcare Community Clinic, various other collections and distributions, weekly Bible Study (mid-September through mid-June) with an outstanding teacher, instruction for children, and a small but mighty choir under the direction of a wonderful Organist/Choirmaster.
