Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church is one of the oldest congregations in La Mesa, California, a community of 58,000 people, immediately inland of San Diego. Our church facilities include:

Large outdoor courtyard featuring a California Pepper tree at the center of a paver patio and an adjacent lawn space for outdoor events. Recently recognized by La Mesa Beautiful as an award winning drought-tolerant landscape.

St. Andrew’s Day School

Our mission is to teach all children that they are unique and loved by God. Through lessons, song and prayer, our children will learn about Jesus and how he teaches us to care for each other with both love and respect. We have parents that attended the St. Andrew's Day School when they were little and are now bringing their own children back to us to continue the tradition of building solid foundations for life through faith.

8:00 a.m. is our “traditional” service: This is a Rite One service, with traditional hymns and organ music. This service is generally (1) one hour in length.

10:00 a.m. is our “blended” service: This service follows Rite Two and is projected on a screen. The music is a blend of contemporary (led by a praise band) and traditional hymns (accompanied by an organ) and an offertory hymn, sung by our choir. In the beginning of the service, children gather on the carpet up front for a Children’s Sermon and a blessing, before going off to Godly Play in the Parish Hall; praise music follows. We are then asked the question, “What is the Holy Spirit saying to you?” All are invited to share what God is putting on our hearts to share with the congregation. The 10:30 worship service typically lasts about 90 minutes. After the service, Prayer Ministers offer healing prayer.

Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles

Racial Reconciliation

Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
