The Church of the Good Shepherd

Share a story

Dating from 1911, the Good Shepherd worship space provides both historic connection and a sense of comfortable welcome. The Spanish architecture, stained glass windows and pipe organ remind worshippers of saints past who support our prayers.  Yet both Sunday services (8:30 without music and with more traditional language; 10:30 with music and contemporary English) include contributions that refesh and assure current relevance.  With a long-standing appreciation of music, one of Good Shepherd's contributions to the community at large is a concert series offering live performance ranging from classical to folk.  The congregation supports our local homeless resource center through regular provision of a freshly prepared dinner, and we collaborate with other local churches to offer a daily lunch to whomever needs it in an "Open Table" lunch program.

Our pastoral minsitries include the Order of Saint Luke, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Eucharistic Visitors, ECW quilts, and Friends with Music (who sing to shut-ins).  Our fellowship and service minsitries include ECW, Daughters of the King, and small groups called Kin Groups.  At Good Shepherd, we strive to be instruments of God’s peace.  We are a fellowship of people from various walks and ways, learning from each other as we all learn from Jesus.  Our worship is both traditional (keeping us grounded) and genuine (keeping us current).  We pray others will bring their wisdom to this new kind of church which might just be the oldest kind of church—one where everyone has a place and no one is judged.

Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles

Racial Reconciliation

Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
