Shop on the Corner
SHOP ON THE CORNER, the thrift shop of TOTH, which has been in operation for some 50 years. The Shop provides a place for community members to purchase affordable clothing and household goods, all of which have been donated by parish members and the community. The shop gives away excess/unsellable goods to other entities, namely the Bernal Community Center near Las Vegas, NM, and the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. In addition, the Shop has provided items to the Children’s Bazaar (see below), and to various fundraising auctions held at TOTH, as well as to Hope Pregnancy Center, Esperanza Shelter in Santa Fe, the Animal Shelter, Habitat’s ReStore, and others. In 2015,the Shop was able to donate over $24,000 to 26 worthy causes, including food pantries, homeless shelters, Veterans groups, youth programs, TOTH clergy discretionary funds and Diocesan ministries.
First Sunday Food Sunday
FIRST SUNDAY FOOD SUNDAY is very well supported by our congregation. The first Sunday of each month we ask folks to contribute non-perishable foods, paper products, and cleaning supplies all of which is donated to LA Cares. This organization distributes boxes to upwards of 90 residents of Los Alamos who are in financial need and often unable to afford to feed their families all month long.
Friday High School Lunch Program
FRIDAY HIGH SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM reaches out to the local youth by hosting the weekly hot meal, as well as offering a Christian environment of welcome and providing a scriptural message and prayer each week. The number of students served each Friday during the school year ranges from 170-220.
Juarez Housebuilding Mission Trips
JUAREZ HOUSEBUILDING MISSION TRIPS, which have taken place since 2005. Initially the trips were women only teams, called House of Hope. A second co-ed trip was formed after a few years which was called Trinity Builders. Team members pay their own personal costs and the cost of the trip itself, including the cost of the materials and labor for the house, is covered by donations and various fundraising events. For 2016, the teams combined into one trip and the chief fundraising event is the Tea and Fashion Show in October, which has been very successful in the past, often a sell-out crowd. Similar events are planned for 2017.
Children's Christmas Bazaar
CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS BAZAAR, an event held annually for children of the community to do their own Christmas shopping for friends and loved ones. Items are all donated by parishioners and community members and are collected year-round and stored. Prices are very reasonable, and gift wrapping is included. The parents socialize in another part of the building while their children are shopping. The event requires some 60 volunteers.
Christian Formation
Our Christian Formation programs seek to engage all age groups with creative and compelling opportunities for growth as a disciple of Jesus Christ. We have spent time in studies of the Scriptures, the lives of the Saints, and Orthodox Christian Spirituality. One of the classes for young people focuses on creative, hands-on projects that enhance their spirituality while using their imagination and creativity.
Habitat for Humanity
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, the local affiliate, constructed the first home in Los Alamos in 2016. The occupants are TOTH members, and many in the congregation have devoted countless hours over the spring and summer to this project. This was a wonderful opportunity to share our gifts to change someone’s life in a huge way.
Adopt-a-Family
ADOPT-A-FAMILY, a project that TOTH has undertaken for many years, which involves giving parishioners the opportunity to “adopt” a needy family from a Northern New Mexico community and to purchase food for their Christmas dinner, as well as extra food in general, plus small gifts for the family members.
Ecumenical Lenten Programs
For over 30 years, TOTH has participated in the annual Ecumenical Lenten Program. More than 5 different denominations meet together on the Thursday evenings of Lent for a simple soup supper followed by several different educational opportunities. We then conclude with worship. For the weekdays of Lent, members of these churches write short devotionals, which are combined into one convenient booklet.
Choral Programs
Our Choral Programs are a rich part of TOTH's ministry. We have three distinct choirs: an Adult Choir, a RSCMA-certified Youth Choir, and an Evensong Choir. We also have an amazing organist who contributes to the rich tapestry of music at TOTH.
