New Life Episcopal Church

Share a story

We're so glad you've visited us here on the web. And it's probably no accident that God brought you to our site. New Life is an Episcopal Church that welcomes you and all people, no matter where you are in your journey of faith.

We are a medium-sized, diverse congregation. We range from newborn to about 90. We are students, singles, divorcees, couples, families with young children, families with older children, widows and widowers.

Some of us are just checking faith out for the first time, and some of us are educated and trained almost as much as clergy! We are life-long Episcopalians, those moving from other denominations, and those who are investigating spirituality for the first time since childhood - or ever.

Our faith family is connected by our seeking and finding God, and our loving, learning, serving and sharing our faith.

Here you will find a safe place to ponder, to question, to learn and grow. To love and be loved, learn and teach, serve and be served, and share and receive. We consider our church to be one of God's greatest blessings to us.

One member, a pastor on sabbatical, recently commented, "I've been a pastor for 30 years and have seen many, many parishes. I have never seen a parish as welcoming and loving as New Life." Wow! That says a lot. We just might be exactly what you are looking for. Come and see some Sunday. We'll be waiting for you!

What to Expect When You Visit New Life

It can be a little intimidating walking into a church for the first time. Or maybe it’s just been a long time and a lot has changed. With us you will find that the songs are sing-able, the sermons are understandable (and not too long), and you don’t need to come in a suit. The people are friendly and the coffee hour following the service is a lot of fun and usually has delicious treats!

This information may help shed some light on aspects of the Episcopal Church and New Life specifically so that you are comfortable from the moment you arrive.

Our Purpose

New Life Episcopal Church exists to provide a spiritual home for loving, learning, serving and sharing our Christian faith.

We love our faith by worshiping God together in a Eucharistic service.

We learn our faith through Bible readings and sermons during the worship service, through teaching and participating in adult studies and small group studies, as well as attending or leading special educational events and programs.

We serve our faith in hundreds of ways both inside and outside of our church building.

We share our faith by living it.

God has planned a special purpose for both New Life Episcopal Church and each member of the congregation. Do you know your special purpose? Ask us about ways you can discern your special gifts, or join us in joyfully fulfilling God’s will for our lives and the life of his church!

Our Past, Present, and Future

A Firestone family endowment launched the construction of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in the Firestone Park area, originally for Firestone Company employees. The church was completed in 1928. St. Peter’s was impacted by the declining rubber industry in Akron during the 1970’s and 80’s. By 2001, the parish was unable to support a full time priest.

In the late 1970’s, a small Episcopal congregation was forming in Northern Stark County as a break-off group from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Canton, Ohio. Named St. Michaels and All Angels, the congregation eventually purchased a church building near the intersection of Cleveland Ave. and Route 619 in Uniontown. The church membership ebbed and flowed over the next 20 years. By 2001, St. Michaels was looking for a half-time priest for its faithful but declining congregation.

In 2001, the Bishop of the Diocese of Ohio appointed The Rev. Stephanie Pace to serve half time at St. Michael’s. As St. Peter’s was also looking for a half-time priest, discussion arose about Rev. Stephanie about serving both churches. Within a short period of time, the benefits of merging the two churches and having a full time priest became clear, and the two vestries began discussions.

The brand new New Life Episcopal Church celebrated its first Eucharistic Service on the first Sunday in December, 2002.

At New Life, all people are nurtured and prepared to identify and use their gifts to be God’s hands in our hurting world.

Individual members of our congregation serve people and communities through a myriad of ministries outside the church in our local communities. These ministries include providing food, clothing and money to the poor, tutoring children, participating in a variety of support groups, going on mission trips and mission events, serving as volunteers and on the boards of social service agencies, hospitals, The YMCA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other youth organizations. You will find New Life servants at nursing homes, at the Ronald MacDonald House, in prisons and group homes. Our Stephen Ministers serve people who are members of New Life as well as those who are not. We have as many ministries outside our church as we have gifts and interests! This means that there are opportunities to join a fellow parishioner and gain both fellowship and ministry opportunities!
