Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd

Good Shepherd is proud to be a continuing congregation in the Episcopal Church, a member of the world-wide Anglican Communion. The radical hospitality of Jesus Christ informs everything we do at Good Shepherd. If you want to slip into the back pew at church and be unnoticed, this church isn't for you! As our vision statement says, "Good Shepherd is a compassionate community of faith and acceptance." Our church building dates from 1936, situated at the corner of Abe Street (U.S. Hwy. 87 South) and Avenue D, which is a busy thoroughfare in San Angelo. Many visitors have remarked that Good Shepherd looks like an "English country church." We agree, and our red front doors are easily spotted on Abe Street. The Diocese of Northwest Texas purchased the building for us in 2014 from the First Church of Christ, Scientist, when it became clear that we would be in litigation for some time over our original property. It felt like home the minute we walked in, but the renovations and additions we have made add to the usefulness and beauty of the place. We pray it will feel that way for everyone who comes through our doors.

Blackshear Headstart
We realized some time ago that Head Start programs don't have PTA's or PTO's, as K-12 schools do. Good Shepherd "adopted" Blackshear to help provide items for children to start school, as well as encouragements for teachers and staff, such as luncheons and parties. We are so proud of these teachers and staff for their commitment to helping each child live into his/her potential as a beloved child of God.
