Ministries

Honduras Health Mission

Mission Trips and Partnerships

St. Stephen’s participates with Episcopalians from the dioceses of North Carolina and Atlanta in an annual 10-day health mission during the month of January to a remote location in Honduras. A traveling contingent numbering about 25 (not all from our parish) includes medical people, interpreters, and indispensable gofers, and takes with them a “cargo” of medical and healthcare supplies which they assemble and pack up before departure.  They serve more than 1500 people with clinical consultations, triage (pre-clinics), eyeglass fittings, and dental services.  There are ways to support the mission other than traveling...helping with fund-raising efforts, helping to collect and pack up medicines and supplies, or simply writing a check!  Additional information about the mission can be found on the NC Diocesan website: http://dionc.org/honduras-health-mission.html

Housing for New Hope

Shelter and Housing

St. Stephen’s participates in the Durham-based Housing for New Hope, a non-profit dedicated to “preventing and ending homelessness one valuable person at a time.”  They offer transitional housing for men (Phoenix House) and women (Dove House).  Father Bob Kaynor serves on their Board of Directors.  A group of women from our parish, the Dove Sisters, visits Dove House about once a month.  The Men’s Club is building a relationship with the men of Phoenix House.  In recent years, our Share Your Christmas outreach program has been directed to Housing for New Hope.
