Good Shepherd has been serving the folks of Asheboro and Randolph County since the original church (now the chapel) was built in 1937. The only Episcopal congregation in the county, Good Shepherd is located in picturesque neighborhood locals call "The Mountain." With a creek running along outside, and a large yard that is home to our outdoor chapel, the grounds are among the prettiest church campuses in the area; in fact, folks often use it for wedding and graduation pictures.
The congregation of Good Shepherd is among the most diverse of all the churches in Randolph County. We are black, white, gay, straight, old, and young. While members of the congregation serve on civic boards and in leadership positions throughout the county, Good Shepherd is an open and affirming community that is home to folks from all walks of life in Randolph County. Local organizations have used Good Shepherd's space for anything from a Stop Hunger Now event to rehearsals for the local community theatre.
Worship style at Good Shepherd could best be described as "broad church." Sunday Eucharists feature chanting, and on high holy days incense is used. Evensongs are held on special occasions, and other liturgies (such as a candllelight Vespers, a Wednesday Healing Eucharist, and a once-a-month Mass on the Grass) are also celebrated.

Ministries
CHRISTIANS UNITED OUTREACH CENTER
CUOC is an outreach partnership of local churches and community organizations that seeks to assist those in need with financial aid, food, clothing, and job applications. Good Shepherd takes donations each month for CUOC, and the space has hosted events in the past.
ADULT FORMATION
Each Sunday two adult formation classes are held. The groups offer two different approaches to formation. The first is often a book-based group (past books include 'Meeting Jesus Again For the First Time' and 'The Hole In the Gospel'), while the second is interest-based (topics have included Christian/Muslim dialogue and modern applications of Holy Scripture). The classes are led by members of the congregation during the Sunday School hour at 9:15 am.
CHILDREN & YOUTH MINISTRY
Formation for children is offered during the Sunday School hour at 9:15 am. Classes are held for children and youth from preschool-high school. Nursery care is provided for children under two years of age. A children's chapel service is held for those between 3-6 years of age during the first half of the 10:30 Sunday liturgy and is led by high school youth and adult members of the congregation. Youth Formation takes place on Sunday mornings and also at Sunday evening youth gatherings, which have included: sporting events, fixing dinner for Ronald McDonald House, making Valentines Day cards for the local nursing home, lock-ins, faith & film conversations, and more. Youth are also actively involved as acolytes and lectors on Sunday mornings. Children and youth pack meals on the first Sunday of the month for Backpack Pals, which provides extra nutrition for children who otherwise do not receive it on the weekends.
OUR DAILY BREAD
While not held at the parish itself, members of Good Shepherd volunteer once a month to serve at the local soup kitchen, Our Daily Bread.
PRISON MINISTRY
Father Joe makes a monthly visit to the local correction institutue to share Holy Eucharist. Ash Wednesday services were also held at the facility this past year, with members of the congregation assisting.
