Welcome to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (Castleton) on Staten Island. Established in 1848, we treasure our traditions while meeting today with grace.  We are a parish in the Episcopal Church, which is a province of the Anglican Communion.

We are a fully welcoming community valuing Scripture, tradition, liturgy, and Christian formation.   We serve one Lord, Jesus Christ.  Worship is centered in the Holy Eucharist, using the 1979 Book of Common Prayer, Rite I.

Our 8:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist is a simple and intimate service in which our congregants are nourished in the Body and Blood of Christ and immersed in the Word.

Our principal service is the 10:00 a.m. Choral Eucharist.  Our active Sunday school meets from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m., then joins the congregation for the remainder of the service.

We invite you to join the community of St. Mary’s!

Sunday School

Faith Formation

Sunday School begins each Sunday at 9:45am in the parish hall.

Our Sunday School program is growing, and we are pushing for a more child- and family-friendly environment. We create an inviting and safe environment for children where they may participate in programs designed to increase their knowledge and love of God and Jesus Christ, their church home and parish family.

St. Mary’s Sunday School program is divided into two age groups: 3-5 year olds, and older children.

The 3-5 year olds receive a brief and simple Sunday school lesson, usually targeting stories of Jesus and emphasizing God’s love. They then spend the rest of their time playing in our newly established children’s area, located in the undercroft.

The Older Children have been studying the major stories of the Old Testament. They are very receptive and have demonstrated that they are not only understanding the stories, but they are also retaining enough to make connections to the next story. They take periodical comprehensive “exams” to see how they are doing. There is no pressure from this and they seem to enjoy the challenge!

Meal Programs

On the first Saturday of the month, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, St. Mary’s hosts a community meal. Our goal is to provide a hearty meal for our neighbors in need and provide a space for fellowship as a community. As we open our doors, we welcome everyone to join us for a home-cooked meal. Families are especially welcome.

During our community meal, food distribution is also available for our guests. All guests will be able to take a pre-packed bag with a variety of goods.

If you are interested in volunteering or are a local business that would like to make a financial or material donation, please contact us. We are in need of donations of food for our pantry as well as items to enhance the experience of our guests, including but not limited to table cloths and paper plates.
