Welcome to St. John’s! We are a vibrant and inclusive Episcopal congregation in the village of Larchmont, N.Y. We are dedicated to creating community both within and outside of our walls through worship, religious education, volunteering and philanthropy, and fellowship.
As an Episcopal congregation, we come together each week for a celebration of Holy Eucharist (also called Communion, the Lord’s Supper, or Mass), the central act of worship for Christians throughout the ages and across the globe. Everything we do flows from worship, including service to our community and the world, Christian education for children, teens, and adults, and occasions for parish fellowship. As an Episcopal community, we are diverse in our individual religious, social and political views, but we are united in rejoicing in God’s great love for us all, and in seeking to love God and our neighbor, following the path that Jesus sets before us.
History of St. John’s
Constructed in the English Gothic style and consecrated in1894, St. John’s Church was the first place of worship in the Village of Larchmont during its most dynamic growth phase.
Early rectors had a major influence on village life, and St. John’s has since developed a well-deserved reputation for welcoming people and families from other denominations and faiths. The parish has also long been supportive of women and their role in the Episcopal Church: It supplied three of the earliest female candidates for ordination (including the Rev. Dorothy A. Greene, who is currently priest associate here) and was one of the first Episcopal parishes in the country to elect women to the vestry, in 1958.
Today, St. John’s is a vital member of the Westchester religious community and has carried out two major capital campaigns in the last 13 years, substantially renovating the worship space in the church itself as well as other public areas used by the congregation. St. John’s has a vibrant Sunday school, including extensive programs for preteens and teens. In addition, St. John’s Nursery School provides preschool classes to children in Larchmont and the surrounding communities.
