AT COOS, THERE IS A MINISTRY FOR YOU

The heartbeat of our church community is outreach ministry.  We want to extend ourselves out beyond the four walls of our church building -- into our local community, the state, the nation and even to far flung international locales such as Angola.

We provide support to our community in many forms:

  • Our building is used for meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous.
  • We take on projects for individuals in need, helping with making their home accessible, providing transportation to our services, and providing meals as individuals recover from surgery or other health problems.
  • We have a very active Prayer Ministry which supports not only our congregation, but extends to friends and family of our members, as well as those suffering major disasters or events through out the world.
  • Youth and adults contribute a week of their time during the summer to participate in Work Camp, going to Ohio, northern New York, North Carolina, or Maine. At Work Camp, our youth help families and individuals in need of home improvement and meet like-minded youth from throughout the country.
  • We support our local charities, including SHARE, Bridges, Habitat for Humanity, Anne-Marie House and the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter.
  • We continue our relationship and support for the church community at St Andre's in Ondjiva, Angola.  Adults and youth have traveled to Ondjiva to meet this active congregation and learn more about their home and build personal relationships.

ENGAGING INTERNATIONALLY

The people of the Church of Our Saviour enjoy a very special relationship with the congregation of St. Andre's Anglican Church in Ondjiva, Angola.  In 2006 the two groups entered into a spiritual partnership. Although they speak different languages and the cost of phone calls and faxes are prohibitive, each week the congregations pray for each other.

In 2008 a group from Milford traveled to Angola. On the southwest coast of Africa, Angola is not a tourist destination. In 2002, the country emerged from a 41-year civil war in which over 1.5 million people were killed, 4 million were displaced, and much of the infrastructure was damaged or destroyed. Although it produces more oil than any other country in Africa, most live in poverty. Its infant mortality rate is one of the highest in the world. And yet the American visitors found generous and hospitable people, congregations worshiping with joy and enthusiasm under trees and in the most primitive buildings.

There is such desperate need it is hard to know where to begin.

So the visitors listened to the Angolans as they articulated their hopes. Rising above all else was a building to replace the corrugated zinc structure where they worship now.  Reaching out in faith and prayer, we share the joy and abundance we have been given through God's love. Our donations and yours can make the difference.
