Grace Episcopal Church

Share a story

Grace Episcopal Parish in Carrollton was organized in April 1850 by the Rev. William Mercer Green, first Bishop of the Diocese of Mississippi.

The work of raising money for a building was begun by the ladies of the church.  A lot was donated by a Mr. Ransom, and substantial sums were contributed by Major J. J. Gee and Colonel William B. Helm.  Under the leadership of Mrs. Sarah Dabney Eggleston, money in the amount of $3,000.00 was raised during the next three years, and the present church was ready for occupancy in 1884.  During the years prior to the building of the church, services were given by the Rev. Mr. Oliver Wilson and the Rev. Mr. W. P. Browne.
