Our Values:  As part of the Anglican Communion, we value scripture, reason, and tradition. We value our shared history. We value the Bible. We value critical thinking. We value all people: We see every human being as the creation of God to be loved and valued as such, and we contemplate the balance of God’s creations in the same way. We value traditional Anglican worship, with its beautiful liturgy and music. We value Biblical and spiritual education for everyone, and especially our children. And we value our caring, thoughtful, fun & uplifting community.

Our Mission:  We are called to seek God with an open mind, serve all in the spirit of Christ, and share God's love with a kind heart through open discussion, common worship, and compassionate action.

The Soup Hour

Meal Programs

The non-sectarian Soup Hour at Saint Matthias Episcopal Church has served the Whittier area continuously for over 30 years. Every afternoon at 3 PM, Monday through Friday, rain or shine, volunteers at the Soup Hour serve a hot meal to anyone who arrives — no questions asked. All one need do to be fed is show up and conduct oneself properly, showing respect to others.

Over the course of the year, the Soup Hour serves over 20,000 meals to our neighbors in need. This service is accomplished with the guidance of two paid, part-time staff and over 30 volunteers each week. In addition to meals, over 300 guests receive their mail at Saint Matthias, as well as hygiene kits, bus fare, and other small monetary needs as funds are available. Since 2014, a nurse practitioner and registered nurse have volunteered their time every other Tuesday from 2 to 4 PM to help our guests in need of medical assistance and attention.
